 A well known model yacht racing club (ROFWAC) has joined forces with HSC to sail and race at Bowshaw Whams reservoir. The club currently races a 650mm long class of yacht called Dragon Force. These models come as an inexpensive kit of parts made of high impact plastic, carbon fibre and a few metallic items. Easily constructed, this model is sold and sailed across the globe and has become internationally recognised as an ideal beginners model capable of an outstanding performance in almost all conditions when fitted with the appropriate rig. The club is also experimenting with various other home designed and built yachts some of which have featured in an international magazine. There is also growing interest in the DF95 class of yacht which, as the name suggests, is 950mm long. Racing takes place throughout the year on Wednesdays commencing at noon. Practice and sail tuning is also available on most Sundays starting at 11am. New members and anyone wishing to just “have-a-go” are welcome to drop by on any sailing day, but be warned, this hobby is highly addictive!
